THE TOP TEN ROCK BALLADS OF THE 80S

They say that the best ballads are made by rockers, so we set out to look for the best rock ballads of the 80s . In fact, all the big rock groups have done at least one ballad, Led Zeppelin, Guns n 'Roses, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi ... Here we leave a brief sample:

Still loving you - Scorpions (1984)

One of the most important compositions of European metal, by Scorpions . A letter that combines the loss of being loved with the harsh reality of a Germany divided in the eighties by the Berlin Wall. This famous power ballad, published in 1984, was (and is) a great sales success for the band and is considered one of the classics within the repertoire of these rockers from Hannover.

I want to know what love i s - Foreigner (1984)

It is the greatest success in the history of the band , and reached number one in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The writer Mick Jones said about the song: "I don't know where it came from. I consider it a gift they sent me. I would say it was probably written entirely by a superior force ."

Carrie - Europe (1987)

The album The Final Countdown , with more than four million copies sold in the US and 12 million in the rest of the world , was a resounding and surprising success for the time. It included Carrie , one of the power ballads that best fit the definition . Created by vocalist Joey Tempest and keyboardist Mic Michaeli , it has a desperate letter from a man looking for this woman on the horizon to express hope that they will meet again one day.

Is this love - Whitesnake (1987)

From the 1987 album, David Coverdale and company making a hymn to love . It is rumored that the song was originally and especially written for Tina Turner . The song became one of Whitesnake's greatest hits. In the music video appears David Coverdale's wife , Tawny Kitaen, who had also appeared in the band's previous video, Here I Go Again .

Never tear us apart - INXS (1987)

Andrew Farriss put the music and Michael Hutchence the lyrics. The slow Kick , the best album of the Australian INXS , copied the video channels and radios in the world in the late eighties.

I'll be there for you - Bon Jovi (1988)

Dramatic declaration of love, written in blood and sweat and, why not, tears. Bon Jovi doing what he does best: ballads. Originally released on the 1988 album New Jersey , it became the third single from the band's album. As the band (and hard rock) was at its peak of popularity at this time , the song quickly rose to the number one position on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has remained one of Bon Jovi's iconic songs and a classic of the rock ballad genre.

Patience - Guns N 'Roses (1988)

The song talks about the problems between Axl Rose and his ex-wife Erin Everly, although none of this has ever been confirmed by any member of the group. The hotel where the video was filmed was destroyed a few days after its recording.

Angel - Aerosmith (1987)

After a period of sharp decline between 1979 and 1986, in 1987 the manager of Aerosmith hired external composers and returned with a record that returns them to the path of success, with songs like this (the first of a long list of ballads of success), which however is from the vintage of guitarist Joe Perry.

Love Bites - Def Leppard (1987)

In 1987 Def Leppard proclaimed for everyone that love bites. Hysteria's fourth song was a monstrous power ballad that eventually became the only number 1 of Sheffield's on the Billboard Hot 100

With or without you - U2 (1987)

It is the third of his album The Joshua Tree , the most universal of the band. For some the song whose author is Bono , is a ballad to break a relationship and for others, it is a spiritual talk .
